Artistic Textures ~ Matt & Adriana Revisited

I have a confession to make: I think I LOVE textures on photos. I keep going back and forth over this. Most days, I just want to see clean, solid photos with good color and lighting. I want my photos to be timeless, and clean photos is one of the best ways to achieve this. Other days, like today, I just want to get into photoshop and texture like crazy! I’m still trying to find my style – although sometimes it feels like I’ll never find exactly what I am looking for. No worries, though! I feel like every day my style keeps evolving and that it just continues getting better and better. So if you’ve seen a style on my site that you really love, let me know when we take your photos. This way I can tailor my editing style more towards what you are wanting. You always get a mix – you get the clean photo for every shot, plus for select photos you also get a copy in black and white and/or artistic edits like these below.

What do you think about the textures? Be honest – I have thick skin, and I highly value authenticity. Love them? Loathe them? Leave a comment and let me know – I’d love to hear your opinion! (Some of the original “clean” photos can be seen in the post of Matt & Adriana’s Milwaukee engagment photography.)

April 8, 2010 - 9:27 pm toni - i like the 2nd shot. the texture really adds something there

April 9, 2010 - 12:12 am Renee Bell - Love the second shot, and the 3rd one would be great if there were a bit more texture over the eyes, it is a bit too obvious that you have erased back... Hope that helps :-)

April 9, 2010 - 12:20 am Albert Palmer - I love them too but you have to be careful when to use them because they don't always work. I think the effect is a bit heavy on the bottom image. It's a great shot but the texture kind of overpowers that. The other shots are great! Nice work.

April 9, 2010 - 1:15 am Forrest - Ooh I dig the bokeh texture over the ring shot, but i do have an unusual fascination with bokeh, cool stuff, thanks for stopping by my blog!

April 9, 2010 - 4:41 am Mark Kalkwarf - Some amazing images, love the textures you have applied. The shot with the brides hand is brilliant. Nicely done.

April 9, 2010 - 8:01 am Steve Koo - Love that second shot. Nice set, Jamie!

April 9, 2010 - 8:41 am Kristi Wright - Love the shot with the distressed wall. Great locations!

April 9, 2010 - 9:41 am Nathan Gilmer - The second shot is the best of the group for sure. The texture adds an awesome feel to it.

April 9, 2010 - 9:44 am Debbie - I'm not a fan of textures used on skin, I like the subtlety of the texture on the first image though.

April 9, 2010 - 9:58 am Tasha Schalk - Love the composition in the second shot. What a great spot!

April 9, 2010 - 7:39 pm Eric Kotara - I like the first and last shot a lot.

April 9, 2010 - 10:21 pm Kelly Ry - I never use textures but when I see others who have done them so well - which, to me means light-handed & subtle but with an impact - I love them. I particularly love your use of texture in the first 2 images; the last is a little heavy for my taste.

April 11, 2010 - 7:30 am Sherri - I like the first two shots very much. Love the composition of the second shot- with or without texture. And my other favorite is the ice cream shot. I think that looks really beautiful! I think the "old, worn" texture on the last picture is neat, but I'm not crazy about it on that particular shot. I say keep experimenting with these textures though, as they are really beautiful!

April 11, 2010 - 11:10 pm Rae Threnoworth - Wow the portrait of Adriana with her eyes closed is just stunning, works well with that slight texture :)

April 18, 2010 - 10:01 pm Amy - I never use textures but when I see others who have done them so well - which, to me means light-handed & subtle but with an impact - I love them. I particularly love your use of texture in the first 2 images; the last is a little heavy for my taste.

April 21, 2010 - 11:24 pm Paul Von Rieter - Newport Beach Wedding Photographer - the bokeh in front of the ice cream cone is by far my fave. I don't think I have ever seen that done before.

May 11, 2010 - 10:05 pm Jen - You are absolutely amazing Jamie!! Everyone of these are beautiful!
